Yuletide Yearnings

The air smells of a familiarity of climes
Ascribed to those so well-known times
Of greens and reds, and cakes and wines,
Of simple small cribs, with porches alight by stars that shine;
Through the night, they make many gloomy lanes fine,
An interesting walk of feast-able sights sublime!

The days seem short, darkness comes quickly
To allow the Star of Bethlehem to rise in its majesty;
As it arrays the night with glittering ray-drops of feisty
And yet humble strands of seasonal generosity.
And we suspect it's consumerism that drives us to the stores
To buy those gifts for others, some whom we may hardly ever know!

I want a yuletide of familiarity, just once more
To listen to the trees sigh in the wind, as the Santa lore
Kindles the minds of children to display kindness worthy of adults worldo'er.
The music of the season, the general sense of joy that engulfs you
For unexplainable reasons, for once you think beyond the "I" too.
It's a great time of the year, and I wish it'd always be!

Hahahaa... yes Swagz! Even in a free and fair world, we sometimes need to be watchful of the unreasonably nasty ones!
