Family - the basic community

To me a family is something huge; it's a concept that no human can come up with. If one peeps into his/her own family, you see the intricacies of relationships between individuals, their nature and complexities, the temperaments and dispositions attached with relationships, the unsaid voices and thoughts that strike you when you think of somebody, the emotions associated with family members,...... it's such an expanse of complicated terrain there.

Society being a collection of communities (religious, racial, philosophical communities) depends on the family as the root community. Families make up communities! It is this family that is reflected at a broader level in today various communities and further in society. Thus the family has an indispensible role in playing toward integrating communities. They are building blocks of the population.

Values imparted to children in families play a huge role in making them healthy members of a community and builders of society. Political opinions, viewpoints on critical issues (abortion and euthanasia, for example) taken up by key members of the family are very often reflected by less-informed members of the family, such as children. In my own experience, i've seen fathers of my friends who speak against certain religions and I've had to face the same music from their sons and daughters, who are my friends.

One should understand the huge importance of the role key family members have to play in the development of their families, and society at large. This role of setting good examples, being beacons of guidance and leadership, being strongholds of hope in times of crises, having integrity in the face of humiliation are some of the admirable traits key family members should display. But that does not rule out the reponsibility others have in building the family! Every one in the family is accountable towards its health.

Certainly I feel very strongly about families, and enjoy to see families that are well knit and large. It's a good feeling to have someone watching your back!
